Spirit Lake Chamber of Commerce Feb. 4, 2025 Present: Colin and Mandi Conway, Carol Ferguson, Wendy from Cup of Grace, Mona Stafford, Dave Krise, Karen Carpenter, Bonnie Morse, Hal Monheim, Charlene Phipps, Wyatt Brown (Bulldog Excavating), Brad Sondahl, Lisa Arnold, Karen Shupp (Silver Squirrel Wellness) Mandi Conway, Max Liese Meeting began at 8:00 Carol Moved, and Karen seconded to accept the minutes as emailed. Treasurer’s report : Currently we have 937.90 in our bank account, and 251.59 in the Trail account. Member news (was mostly introductions with their associations as noted above, except for these details: Dave Krise is selling Frogspit as of the end of February. Karen Carpenter is no longer with Farmers Insurance, but independent and able to find you the best insurance fit. Bonnie Morse From Brickel Creek said her shop was busy for the Outhouse race Brendan Robinson is a new realtor in the area, lives here in town. Wyatt Brown, Bulldog Excavation wanted to hear the short version of why to join the Chamber. Hal Monheim explained we’re striving to do better with promoting local businesses... Brad Sondahl said this year marks his 50th anniversary as a professional potter (in Spirit Lake since 1983) Karen Shupp has Silver Squirrel Wellness and will be doing a workshop at Cup of Grace, on Febr. 15 from 1-3 called The Winter Gardener. Cost is $25.00 208 284-3390 to sign up. Mandi Conway said business is picking up again. This month’s French Pairing meal is sold out. Comedy night are lots of fun –next one is Wednesday, February 19th, 2025 Ticket price $40 We are very excited to have Phillip Kopczynski joining us for a night of Dinner and Comedy! Also they are hosting the SLCC Mardi Gras Carnival Tuesday, March 4th, 2025 Ticket price $50 Join us for a Mardi Gras Carnival Night benefitting Spirit Lake Community Coalition Both are available to purchase tickets at https://events.sedlmayers.com/ Max Liese invites all to a bluegrass concert Friday at 7 at the Presbyterian Church featuring a teen band called Shiloh Mountain. Free, donations welcome... SLCC news: Mona Stafford Said the Mardi Gras dinner is to benefit local arts and culture, as the SLCC is taking on the events formerly done by the Spirit Lake Events Committee.. It will include Gumbo, Jambalaya, and a dessert auction. Innovia supplies grants to our community, and is coaching us for the heart and soul program which emphasizes working together to create a better community. Author of the book on 13 ways to kill your community, Doug Griffith will talk on 13 essentials for community $50/person to attend. This will be a Feb 17 event in Spokane. Talk to Mona for more info. The Coalition has an event calendar online, and you can add events. Their phone number will recite the calendar. Dave Krise introduced the membership forms for new, and returning members, with 4 levels of membership. Hal hopes we can grow to 70 or more members. SLCC is looking for an office which could combine the food banks, Chamber, could be the current food bank location if the food bank relocates. Hal talked about improving the Labor Day car show. Becky Demers (absent) requested the Chamber members to get involved with the Farmer’s market. Nonprofits can set up a booth, the Chamber could use the chamber or trails display signs. 2 retractable banners are also available. The Market will move to Big Park with the SLCC running it. Charlene Phipps said the city is on hold on a new ordinance for snow plowing rules—lawyers changed all the things the council agreed, so the council didn’t approve it, so we are still under the old code. Council meets second Tuesdays at 6:30 pm and she encourages everyone to attend. Carol Ferguson brought up the stickers for members, Dave has a new design, they will get ordered. Dave would like improvements to the webpage. Charlene would like a display for the Chamber and town events in the city hall. Brad suggested one of the City Hall windows is easily visible from the Post Office which is frequented more often, and an outfacing TV screen could rotate slides of upcoming events. Karen Shupp mentioned there are booth rentals becoming available at Nelson’s as they transition from being a hardware store. Hal talked of the importance of doing business with Chamber members, which means we must be confident to recommend businesses. He recommended businesses sign an ethical pledge… Meeting adjourned around 8:50
